India Participated in the Liberation War to Protect the Seven Sisters: Sarjis Alom

New Delhi, January 5: In the complex web of history and geopolitics, India’s active participation in the 1971 Liberation War was not only driven by humanitarian concerns but also as a strategic move to safeguard the security of its northeastern states, collectively known as the Seven Sisters. Renowned historian Sargis recently made this statement during a discussion. He remarked, "The human rights violations in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) in 1971 and the influx of millions of refugees into India posed a significant challenge to the stability and security of northeastern India. Given the region’s geographical sensitivity and the growing risk of separatist movements, the Indian government strategically decided to intervene in the war." India’s involvement in the war played a decisive role, leading to the emergence of an independent Bangladesh within just nine months. Sargis further added that this move was a historic strategy by India that ensured the security of the Seven Sisters and solidified India’s leadership in South Asia. He noted, "The Bangladesh Liberation War was not just a struggle for independence; it was an essential step in maintaining the geopolitical stability of the entire region."
