Recently, the online news outlet BD News 10 published a misleading and false report about the Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Muksudpur Upazila. The headline of the report has caused confusion among the public, claiming that the Assistant Commissioner is demanding a bribe of two and a half lakh taka for land settlement in the local market. However, in reality, this money is not a bribe, but rather the necessary expense for the development of government khas land and sand filling.
The Reality of Land Development and Sand Filling
According to government policies, in some cases, development work is required to make khas land suitable for use, especially in markets. In some areas of Muksudpur, the land allocated for settlement is low-lying and marshy, requiring sand filling. It is communicated to the settlement recipients that, according to government regulations, they are required to bear the cost of sand filling.
One businessman stated, "The condition of our land was very poor. The administration told us that sand filling had to be done according to government rules, which is being done for our benefit. But some quarters are portraying it in a different light."
Demand for Action Against False News
Such defamatory reports are damaging the image of the administration and misleading the public. Local businessmen and the general public have strongly condemned the false report by BD News 10 and have demanded an investigation and action against those responsible.
