Madaripur Triple Murder: Case Filed Against UP Chairman Sumon and 65 Others

Madaripur Correspondent: A murder case has been filed over the killing of three people in a dispute between the UP chairman and member in Madaripur's Kalkini, stemming from a struggle for dominance. On Monday (December 30) morning, Mostafizur Rahman Sumon, chairman of Bashgari Union in Kalkini Upazila, was named as the prime accused in the case. The case includes the names of 65 individuals, along with 60 unidentified persons, and was filed by Matiur Rahman, father of the deceased Ataur Rahman Akhtar Shikder. According to police and locals, on December 27 (Friday) at dawn, members of a rival group hacked Ataur Rahman Akhtar Shikder, a member of Bashgari Union Parishad; his son Maruf Shikder; and their associate Siraj Chowkidar to death. The victims' family claims the murders were the result of a long-standing conflict between Bashgari UP Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Sumon and member Akhtar Shikder. In response, a murder case was filed, naming the chairman and 65 others, along with 60 unidentified individuals. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area, which remains tense. Security forces, including the police, army, and RAB, are patrolling the region. The incident was confirmed by Kalkini Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurul Amin. He stated, “The father of one of the deceased, Matiur Rahman, has filed a murder case. The current chairman of Bashgari and his brother have been named as accused. However, we cannot disclose the names of the other accused at this time.”
